WORKSHOPS with Barbara Bickel

I hold workshops often in conjunction with my art exhibitions in other cities. In Vancouver however, I schedule workshops on an as requested basis with small groups and within organizations. I keep an ongoing list of interested participants.

Expressing Yourself Creatively with Collage
The act of collage-making I believe is akin to dreaming while awake. In this art form elements of your life, the world around you and your psyche come together. In the collage-making process all these elements respond to and influence each other. We can guide the process but the outcome cannot be predetermined. It is about making multiple decisions. No decision is a “wrong” decision in this creative process.

Collage-making involves the layering of varied papers, with images (photos, photocopies of images, magazine images), paint, drawing materials, fabric, and objects on wood. A desire to create and work with your intuition is the only prerequisite. I will guide you through the process with encouragement of intuitions, feedback on ideas and demonstration of techniques (photocopy transfer, drawing/mark-making, composition planning, gluing and finishing edges). In this 5 hour workshop a collage can be completed or near finished.
Some art materials will be supplied including the 1/2 inch thick wood base for the collage.

This workshop shares the collage technique/process that I have developed in my own art practice. It is an opportunity for participants to explore their own creativity utilizing this technique/process.

Personal Body Casting & Collage Workshop for Women
This is an opportunity to celebrate and honour your body through the act of art-making.
In this workshop Barbara shares the body casting and collage technique/process that she has developed in her own art practice. It is an opportunity for participants to explore their own creativity utilizing this technique/process.
This involves the layering of varied papers, with images (photos, photocopies of images, magazine images), paint, drawing materials, fabric, and objects on a cast body part (you decide which area of your body you want to cast, face & shoulders, front torso, back torso, side torso, buttocks etc.).
A desire to create and work with your intuition is the only prerequisite. Barbara will guide the process with encouragement of intuitions, feedback on ideas and demonstration of techniques (plaster bandage body casting, photocopy transfer, mark-making, composition planning, gluing and finishing edges). In this 1 1/2 day workshop a collaged body sculpture can be completed or near finished.
Some art materials will be supplied.
